About

The ocean and its many creatures have been sustaining life on this planet for far longer than we have existed. Now this vital and remarkable life source is in peril and we are responsible. Every second breath we take is a breath given by the ocean. Every day we enjoy is a result of its enormous power. It regulates temperature and climate, provides us with food and energy and enriches us simply by being there. Now the ocean is in crisis and we know why. Five major issues threaten its survival. All of them can be stopped. Take action. Pledge to do your part. Make a difference for today and tomorrow.

The Canadian organizations below helped us create and describe our pledge actions:

  • Canadian Wildlife Federation

The Canadian Wildlife Federation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to fostering awareness and appreciation of our natural world. By spreading knowledge of human impacts on the environment, developing and delivering educational programs, sponsoring research, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, recommending policy changes and co-operating with like-minded partners, CWF encourages a future in which Canadians can live in harmony with nature. Ocean education is one of CWF’s top priorities, because marine ecosystems are critical to the well-being of every life form on this blue planet. No matter where we live, from the dampest shorelands and marshlands to the driest grasslands and timberlands, our everyday actions impact on the oceans that give us life. • Living Oceans Society

Living Oceans Society is the largest marine conservation organization in Canada. We are based in Sointula, a small fishing village on the Central Coast of British Columbia.

Living in a coastal community, we are reminded each day that it’s not just about fish - it’s also about people. We understand that people are part of the environment and that by protecting the B.C. coastal ecosystem, we can build sustainable communities for ourselves and for our children. Our vision is to ensure the long-term health of the ocean and coastal communities on the Pacific Coast of Canada.
